The Afternoon Tea in Hotel Riverton is an occasion to socialize and relax in style with friends in Gothenburg. The panoramic view from our top floor is the perfect setting for enjoying Afternoon Tea with a view of the Gothenburg harbour.

Our pastry chef, Carlos Alegria and his team, have created a new Afternoon Tea menu where the flavours varies depending on season and availability. Enjoy freshly baked scones with homemade jams and curds, scrumptious finger sandwiches and beautiful pastries that are a delight for both the palate and the eye. If you are looking for a vegetarian or gluten-free option, look no further! We offer the same menu with a few changes to suit your dietary needs.

The ritual of Afternoon Tea started with the 7th Duchess of Bedford. During the nineteenth century it was common to eat only two main meals: an early breakfast and then a late dinner. Rather than battle the hunger pangs in between meals, she started to take tea and snacks each afternoon in the privacy of her bedroom. Eventually this private ceremony became a time to meet with friends and the tradition of Afternoon Tea was born.

Tea is of course an important component for a great Afternoon Tea, where quality and taste of the tea plays a big part. We have chosen to use loose teas from Mighty Leaf, that have been carefully selected to complement each pastry. Mighty Leaf sources its whole leaf teas from around the world and manages the blending and packaging of teas to ensure consistency and quality in every cup for you to enjoy "sip by sip".

On our Afternoon Tea menu, we offer Organic High Mountain Oolong, which tea connoisseurs around the globe, considers to be one of the best. They are often described as to be in the middle between black and green teas due to the moderate caffeine levels. The oolong teas are very versatile and are traditionally consumed with food. They pair especially well with finer dishes, seafood and lighter, elegant desserts. The flavour of this tea is complex as each brewing will offer a new taste experience. But you can expect wheat, honey, flower and melon to present itself.

We have also included a selection of Rooibos teas on the menu (pronounced roy-boss). Rooibos originates from South Africa's Cedarberg region where it thrives as a small bush (redbush), the leaves and stems from the bush are used for "tea". This infusion is caffeine free and organically grown. Rooibos is a soothing, fruity sweet drink, full of great taste and a beautiful colour which have contributed to its popularity.

Recommended: Start with a glass of champagne, it tends to make the pastries tastier!

Afternoon Tea is served every Saturday between the hours of 14:00 - 17:00 in the Skybar Lounge. We recommend to book a table in advance. Follow the link for more information and menu.
